New Registration Process for Fee Waiver Applicants for Camp Venture 2025

We hope you’re as excited as we are for the upcoming Camp Venture 2025! There are important updates regarding the registration process and necessary steps for families applying for a 2025-2026 fee waiver. 
 
What’s New for 2025?
In an effort to expand access, improve the registration experience, and ensure a smooth, efficient process for all families, we’ve made some changes to our registration and fee waiver procedures. Please read the following updates carefully:

1. Registration Update - This year, families applying for a fee waiver are able to register online or in-person at the 212 Canco Rd Administration office on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 8:30am. Registration holds the child's spot in camp until the completed fee waiver application is received by the deadline and approved based on eligibility requirements. No deposit needed for fee waiver spots.

*Please note, spaces are limited and registration does not guarantee a spot in camp. No spots will be reserved for in-person registration (online registrants can get a spot while you are waiting in line to register in-person).
 
2. Fee Waiver Update - Fee waiver applications and documentation can be submitted from March 1- April 1, 2025 at the Canco Road Administration office or by mail.

3. Waiver Completion Deadline
Completed fee waiver applications and all required documentation must be received by April 1, 2025. Late or incomplete applications will result in the spot being released. Incomplete applications will not be processed and will be returned.

4. Confirmation
Once all fee waiver documentation is received and approved based on eligibility requirements, families will be notified by mid-April if a spot is confirmed for camp.

How to Register:
    • Create a household account by visiting https://portlandme.myrec.com
    • Registration opens online (below) and in-person at the 212 Canco Road Administration office on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 8:30am.  
    • When registering your children, please register them using their current grade (grade they are in for the school year 2024/25). This means children currently in Pre-K are not eligible for camp this summer.

Skills Needed to Attend Camp

-To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our participants, everyone attending the camp must be able to perform the following readiness skills:
1. Participate independently or with reasonable accommodations/modifications.
2. Take and follow directions and instructions from a staff member and be open to changing what they are doing to keep the group safe and welcoming to all people.
3. Interact and participate in a manner that is physically and emotionally safe for themselves and others.
4. Maintain personal care without the support of recreation staff.
5. Stay with their assigned group throughout the program's duration or safely request a break from the group where staff can see/hear them and the rest of the group.
6. Follow the department's behavior expectations, which include being safe, respectful and responsible.

  • If your child needs additional support to show the readiness skills or they need to take or have with them a medication (Medical Permission For Inhalers, Epi-Pens and Insulin/Glucagon or other), please complete the appropriate online form below.

Qualified individuals with a disability seeking an accommodation in order to participate in the Department’s programs are asked to complete the forms above. Once received, the Department will determine if it can support the requested accommodation(s). The Department can provide reasonable accommodations that do not cause an undue burden on the City or fundamentally alter the nature of the program.

What: A summer day camp experience for children currently in grades K-5 and who are residents of Portland.
Who: Portland residents currently in grades K-5 who have and can show the departments readiness skills. 
When: 
Regular camp - 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday
Before camp - 7:30am-8:30am, Monday-Friday (not fee waiver eligible)
After camp - 4:30pm-5:30pm, Monday-Friday (not fee waiver eligible)
Dates
Week 1 - June 23-27 
Week 2 - June 30-July 3 (no camp July 4) 
Week 3 - July 7-11 
Week 4 - July 14-18 
Week 5 - July 21-25 
Week 6 - July 28-August 1
Week 7 - August 4-8 

Where: East End Community Center, 195 North St

-Transportation to and from camp is the responsibility of the camper’s parents/caregiver. 
-Breakfast and lunch are provided free of charge through the Portland Public School's children’s food program.
 
-The Parents/Caregiver Handbook will be posted on May 2, 2025 
-The Camp Calendar will be posted on May 30, 2025

What to bring each day:
If campers show up without the things they need for the day, they will not be able to check in for camp.

-Labeled backpack/tote with your child’s first and last name
-Labeled and filled water bottle
-A sun hat/cap and sunglasses
-A change of clothing
-Bathing suit and towel
-Hat and sunscreen (SPF 30 or above)
-Sneakers/ socks with closed-toed shoes. Sandals/flip flops/crocs are not appropriate unless on a beach trip
-Snacks (e.g. fruit, granola bars, veggie, trail mix, pretzels).
