Kayak & Dinghy Rack Rental Program
Rack Rental Policies:
  • Seasonal Rack Rental Dates: May 1 - November 1, 2025.
  • Maximum Vessel Length Allowed: 20 feet / Maximum Vessel Width Allowed: 4.5 feet
  • Rack Rental fees are due at the time of registration.
  • Rack rentals are on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • Rack slots are assigned upon receipt of the completed membership registration.
  • Prorated rental rates are available based on availability. Send inquiry to recreation@portlandmaine.gov
  • Registration stickers will be mailed to you within 3-5 business days of completed membership registration.

Rack Rental Terms of Agreement:
  • Owner agrees the earliest they will place their vessel(s) on assigned rack slot(s) is: May 1, 2025
  • Owner agrees to place registration sticker along the port side of vessel(s) before placing on rack(s).
  • Owner agrees to ensure that vessel(s) is reasonably secured, in its assigned rack slot(s) and that it will not pose any danger to passing visitors.
  • Owner agrees to provide their own locking mechanism.
  • Owner agrees to remove their vessel(s) no later than November 1, 2025. Failure to remove vessel(s) and all belongings (including foam, etc.) from rack(s) will result in a late fee charge of $ 50.00, which will be administered for any vessel left beyond November 1st. 
  • Owner agrees that nothing, other than vessel(s), can be left in, on, around or by the rack and agrees to keep rack space clean and tidy at all times.
  • Owner agrees that storage rack unit may only be used for the vessel(s) listed above.
  • Owner acknowledges that use of rack rental storage slot is at their own risk.
  • Owner acknowledges the City of Portland accepts no responsibility for loss of or damage to vessel(s.
Boat Launch Policies:
FOR YOUR SAFETY, THE FOLLOWING REGULATIONS ARE MONITORED BY THE PARK RANGERS
1. The public launching ramp is primarily intended to be used for the launching of recreational boats.
     a. Any watercraft unloaded by trailer at the ramp is required to obtain a boat launch pass. If a Park Ranger is not present at the boat launch, deposit the $5 DAY USE fee in the self-pay station at the top of the ramp. Seasonal boat launch passes can be purchased below.
     b. Park Rangers recommend kayaks be put in at one of the two beach areas. No fee will be charged for utilizing either of the beaches.
     c. There is no fee charged to customers using the ramp to launch a small boat (12 ft or less) in order to row out to a vessel tied to a mooring. These customers must obtain a parking pass if they are going to park a vehicle with a trailer attached in one of the areas designated for trailer parking in one of the East End lots. Vehicles with trailers parked without a Day Pass will receive a non-refundable parking ticket.
2. The public float/ramp is restricted to the boarding and landing of small crafts. Storage of gear is prohibited. The time limit for dock tie-up is fifteen minutes for loading and unloading.
3. When approaching or leaving the area, the speed of all boats shall be reduced to headway speed to provide full visibility and control, prevent their wash from being thrown onto the other boats, and prevent excessive rocking to other boats.
4. Children under 10 years of age must wear a personal floatation device and must be accompanied by an adult when in a boat.
5. No swimming, fishing, loitering, or anchoring from the float or ramp area.
6. Bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, and scooters are prohibited on the dock.
7. No vehicle, trailers, campers, or the like shall be parked or left in the area adjoining the ramp except as allowed by posted signs. Vehicles parking in undesignated areas will be ticketed and/or towed.
8. Pets in the park, including the dock area, must be leashed (8 ft or less) at all times, in compliance with the City Leash Law.
9. Camping, parking, or otherwise staying overnight in the park is prohibited. No fires are permitted.
10. Drinking any alcoholic beverage and/or disorderly conduct is prohibited.
11. Removing, damaging, vandalizing or tampering with the physical, natural, or historic resources in the park is prohibited.
12. The park/beach is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.
13. Vehicles waiting for barge transportation must park in designated parking spots in the lower lot or wait for the barge in the upper lot.
14. Private contractors are not to store materials in the park.
15. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult when using the beach.
16. Floating devices are prohibited.
17. Jet skis are prohibited on the beach.
18. Fishing is prohibited from the beach.
19. Dogs are prohibited on the beach from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm the day after Memorial Day to the day after Labor Day.
20. Glass containers are prohibited on the beach. PLEASE CARRY OUT ALL TRASH!
