Deering Oaks Pickleball Open Play Conventions and Etiquette
Welcome to Portland’s organized play, pickleball at the Oaks! We are glad you’re here! 
Daily play approximately 8 am-1 pm

General Play Guidelines: 
  • Place your paddle in the queue
  • If fewer than 10 people (paddles in the queue) are waiting: 
    • Games to 11, win by 2
    • Winners stay for a second game and split up; two players join the queue
    • If there is a queue, you leave the court after two games, win or lose
    • If it’s the first game for all four players, winners stay, and losers return to the queue
  • If more than 10 players are waiting: 
    • Games to 9, win by 1
    • Other conventions listed above apply
  • Etiquette & Rules: 
    • Are you new to pickleball? That’s great! There are some great online resources for learning, and this is a safe space to learn!
    • Introduce yourself to your partners and opponents
    • Always announce the score before each serve
    • Try not to offer feedback/advice unless asked! And ask for it if you want it
    • This is open (all-levels) play, so try to be kind and friendly, no matter the level of each player.

Direct Reservations
Direct Reservations: 
  • Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. 
    • Direct reservations are for personal use only
  • At least 25 percent of the facility's courts will be drop-in use only. 
  • Reservations can be made between 1 and 7 days in advance.
