Red Cross Learn to Swim:
Designed to provide school-age children and young teens with a positive, developmentally appropriate aquatic learning experience. Learn-to-Swim courses consist of a logical, six-level progression.
Red Cross Preschool Aquatics:
Preschool Aquatics aims to promote the developmentally appropriate learning of fundamental water safety and skills by young children. Aquatic and safety skills are taught in a logical progression through three levels of courses.
30 minute classes: Parent/Child, Preschool Aquatics, Level 1, and Level 2
45 minute classes: Level 3, Level 4, Level 5, and Level 6
Participants must be able to meet department Readiness Skills in order to participate in Aquatics programming.
Fall Session 2025 runs from November 3rd until December 20th.
No Swim classes will be held on November 4th, November 11th, or November 27th-29th.
Location: Reiche Community Pool - Clark Street Entrance
Parent / Child
- Parent/Child Aquatics (6 months - approx 4 years old) teaches safe behaviors around the water and develops swimming readiness by leading parents/caregivers and their children in water exploration activities, with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in and around water.
- **Parent/caregiver must accompany the child into the water and participate in each class. The child must wear a disposable or reusable swim cover-up over the diaper.**

Beginner Preschool
- Ages: Child must be between 3 and 5 years old to enroll and be fully potty-trained. Parents do not get in the water.
- Minimum Skill Requirements: Participants must be capable of listening to direction and following all pool rules. (Example: Holding onto the edge of the pool during the lesson.) Participants may use a noodle for support in the water but will be worked slowly off of flotation.

Intermediate Preschool
- Ages: Child must be between 3 and 5 years old to enroll. Child must be fully-potty trained. Parents do not get in the water.
- Minimum Skill Requirements: Must be comfortable getting into the water and swimming independently without instructor assistance (support with a noodle permitted). Participants must be capable of listening to direction and following all pool rules. (Example: Holding onto the edge of the pool during the lesson.)

Advanced Preschool
- Preschool Aquatics aims to promote the developmentally appropriate learning of fundamental water safety and skills by young children. Aquatic and safety skills are taught in a logical progression through three levels of courses.
- Advanced Preschool
- Ages: Child must be at least 4 years old to enroll. Child must be fully-potty trained. Parents do not get in the water.
- Minimum Skill Requirements: Child should be comfortable getting their face fully submerged when asked and be able to swim independently for about 15 feet, or from the wall to the flags without support or assistance (a noodle may be used for longer distances). Participants must be capable of listening to direction and following all pool rules. (Example: Holding onto the edge of the pool during the lesson.)

Level 1
- Ages: 5 - 14 years old
- Minimum Skill Requirements: Participants must be capable of listening to direction and following all pool rules. Participants may use a noodle if needed for support in the water.

Level 2
- Ages: 5 yrs 6 months - 14 years old
- Minimum Skill Requirements: Demonstrate all completion requirements in Learn-To-Swim Level 1. They should be comfortable getting their face fully submerged when asked and be able to swim independently for about 15 feet or from the wall to the flags (a noodle may be used for longer distances).

Level 3
- Ages: 6 - 14 years old
- Minimum Skill Requirements: Demonstrate all completion requirements in Learn-To-Swim Level 2; they should be able to swim rudimentary stroke of combined arm and leg actions on both their front and back for at least 15 meters.

Level 4
- Ages: 6 - 14 years old
- Minimum Skill Requirements: Demonstrate all completion requirements in Learn-To-Swim Level 3. They should be comfortable swimming a length of the pool (25 meters) on both front and back as well as know front crawl while demonstrating breathing to the side. They should also be able to comfortably swim the rudimentary elementary backstroke one length of the pool (25 meters).

Level 5
- Ages: 6 - 14 years old
- Minimum Skill Requirements: Demonstrate all completion requirements in Learn-To-Swim Level 4; They should know all six swimming strokes: front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary back and sidestroke. The focus is refinement of their performance of all six strokes.

Level 6
- Ages: 6 - 14 years old
- Minimum Skill Requirements: Demonstrate all completion requirements in Learn-To-Swim Level 5. They should be proficient with all six swimming strokes: front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary back and sidestroke and be able to swim multiple laps. The focus is refinement of strokes and turns so students swim with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.
