Portland Parks, Recreation, and Facilities has partnered with the Jr. Celtics Academy to create a new, exciting, engaging basketball program for Portland's youth.

With a strong focus on youth development, Jr.Celtics Academy leagues are built on evidence based data and frameworks that allow a young person to grow into their best self. Through a detailed curriculum, players and coaches will have structured content for individual and team skill development,pre and post game preparation and reflection, practice and game play.

Jr. Celtics Mission Statement: 
Jr. Celtics Academy provides New England's youth with inclusive and unique basketball experiences, using fun and professionally proven techniques to teach youth both basketball and life skills, creating the next generation of Celtics fans. 

Practices: Practices are in the evenings at Lyseth, Ocean Ave, Rowe Elementary, East End, Reiche, or Riverton Community Center once a week. Practices will begin during the week of February 2nd. Rosters will be sent out after our Coaches Meeting. 

Games: Games will be played Saturdays (times TBD) at the East End Community Center, Amanda Rowe Elementary, and Riverton Community Center. The first games for the Gallagher Division will be Saturday, February 7th, 2026 and will run through early March 28th with an awards ceremony April 4th, 2026.

Teams:  The league consist of four regions, and each team will consist of players from schools within the same region. Players will be selected based on skill level to ensure all teams are balanced and fair.
Important Note: If you would like your child to play on the Coed team please select Coed below. If there are not enough Coed players they will be matched up with one of the other teams in the Boys division for that grade level.

Fee: $100.00 (Residents) / $110.00 (Non-Resident - Child attends Portland Public School) 
Deadline: December 5th, 2025
Fee Waiver Eligible: Yes *Current fee waivers are valid through February 2026. If you currently have a fee waiver, you will not need a new application for this program.

Mandatory Coaches Training Clinic/Team Draft day: Partnership with the Jr. Celtics Program. 
January 24th, 2026, time TBD in the Riverton Community Center Community Room, 1600 Forest Ave.
In partnership with the Jr. Celtics Program, players will receive their jerseys on Draft Day, participate in a skills clinic conducted by the Jr. Celtics Academy, and celebrate the official start of the season.

Mandatory Coaches Meeting: Tuesday, Jan. 27th at 6:00-7:30pm @ Riverton Community Center Community Room 1600 Forest Ave. At this meeting coaches will get their rosters, practice schedule, game schedule.
